Submit Your Proposal
We ask that you submit a proposal for the work you’d like to pursue during your residency. This should include a written description of any themes, concepts or historical references, size and material. Sketches will help us better understand your vision as we review your application. If you do not have a full proposal, just tell us what your ideas are and we'll follow up with you to develop your proposal further.
Click here for a sample proposal and template.
*Please note
: Residents are welcome and encouraged to explore any size or number of pieces in their proposal. However, CIA is limited on space for the final exhibition. Any piece(s) that an accepted resident plans to include in the exhibition must be no wider than 36”.
Please upload your proposal description including themes, research topics, materials and methods, and your vision of the final product.
Please use Word document or PDF (preferred).
Please submit up to five sketches that illustrate your project description, or images of your current work.
Please combine into a single Word document or PDF (preferred).
Tell us briefly any ideas, themes or materials you think you’d like to work with. We will follow up with you to develop your proposal more. (With this option, we will help you create a timeline for solidifying your proposal and preparing preliminary sketches so that when the residency begins, you’ll have a solid plan for your time at CIA.)
Would you like a member of our staff to contact you to discuss your ideas before submitting a full proposal?
