Admissions

Portfolio Days

Your portfolio is one of the most important components of your application to CIA! During a Portfolio Day event, CIA admissions counselors and faculty members will be on hand to review your portfolio and give you tips on creating and presenting your best work.

A Portfolio Day may be the first time you have seen so many people in one place who all share your commitment to the arts. The experience is a small taste of what a professional art and design program can be like. We encourage you to discuss the work with as many college representatives as possible at these events. You’ll hear many different opinions of your work. Don’t hesitate to explain how you develop your ideas and where you want to go with them.

What to Bring

Your portfolio should include the best work you are making now; but it can also include work in progress and sketchbooks. Whenever possible you should bring your original artwork. If you do bring digital media or work that is time-based, such as video, animation, or performance, you’ll also need to bring the tool to view it on. Your laptop, iPad or other tablet is fine. Keep in mind it’s not likely there will be an electrical outlet nearby, so be sure you’re charged up.
