Admissions

Portfolio Days

Your portfolio is one of the most important components of your application to CIA! During a Portfolio Day event, CIA admissions counselors and faculty members will be on hand to review your portfolio and give you tips on creating and presenting your best work.

A Portfolio Day may be the first time you have seen so many people in one place who all share your commitment to the arts. The experience is a small taste of what a professional art and design program can be like. We encourage you to discuss the work with as many college representatives as possible at these events. You’ll hear many different opinions of your work. Don’t hesitate to explain how you develop your ideas and where you want to go with them.

What to Bring

Your portfolio should include the best work you are making now; but it can also include work in progress, sketchbooks, and printed proofs of your work. Whenever possible you should bring your original artwork. If you bring digital media or work that is time-based, such as video, animation, or performance, it is your responsibility to ensure that the work can be viewed. You may choose to bring your own device (laptop, iPad, or other tablet) to show your work, but please be advised that you will not have access to an electrical outlet.
